Cardioversions refers to the process in which a doctor converts a dangerous heart rhythm to a normal one.

In a typical case, a patient complains of palpitations, which upon examination and ECG, is shown to be having Atrial or Ventricular Fibrillation with associated low Blood Pressure or dizziness or Heart failure. There is thus an URGENT need to convert the abnormal rhythm to a normal one.

By giving the heart a minor shock from a machine called a defribillator, the Atrial or Ventricular Fibrillation is converted to a normal rhythm with resolution of the patients symptoms.
